The Piano Mover (And other silly titles for novels)

When I go browsing for books, I often see the latest bestsellers stacked up at the front of the bookstore. Their fancy cover art adorning nice hardback editions. I can’t help but wonder though, why the authors keep romantisizing musicians in their titles.

I compiled a list by release date:

Farewell my Subaru


So I heard about this book on a local blog and found out that the author, besides sharing my first name, had a Subaru the same year as mine and lives just a few hours away. I wanted to see what a tech-oriented person does with peak-oil.

I have long been an admirer of James Howard Kunstler’s writing style. His dry wit and cultural literacy make for entertaining as well as informative reading. His most recent book is a work of fiction titled “A World Made by Hand.” It tells the story of an America that is broken. There is little electricity, no cars, no communication, and very little government. Religion has become an organizing force in society once again, and medicine has reverted to the 19th century.
